Extra Credit Opportunity: Jazz Concert

The PSU Jazz Ensembles will be presenting a free concert on Monday October 4 at 7:30 PM in the Crimson and Gold Ballroom of the Overman Student Center. The concert includes works from the library of such big bands as Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Bob Mintzer, among others. It will begin with Jazz Two led by Dr. Todd Hastings. Jazz Two is a lab band offering opportunities for students to not only perform jazz, but also conduct the group. On this concert Aaron Shockley for Baxter Springs will be the guest student conductor.

Jazz One will take the stage for the last part of the concert and will feature their conductor, Robert Kehle, on a beautiful trombone solo Somewhere Out There from the movie An American Tale. The band will also present a special treat performing the original Neil Heft work Cute as performed by the Count Basie Band. Following the Basie version the band will play a contemporary arrangement by New York musician Bob Mintzer of the same work, Cute. Closing the concert will be another Basie Band work composed by Bill Holman titled Ticker.
